Excellent example of a young girls marking sampler.
As part of her preparation for the responsibility of sewing clothes and linens for her future family, most girls completed at least two samplers. The first, which might be undertaken when a girl was as young as five or six, was called a marking sampler
Marking samplers served a dual purpose: they taught a child basic embroidery techniques and the alphabet and numbers. The letters and numbers learned while embroidering a marking sampler were especially useful, since it was important that any homemaker keep track of her linens, some of her most valuable household goods. This was accomplished by marking them, usually in a cross stitch, with her initials and a number.
Young girls made marking samplers either at home under the guidance of their mother or grandmother.
In original carved wood and gold guild frame.
    Condition: Good antique condition.
Frame is complete w/ intact glass. Brown paper on reverse is intact.  There is a hanging wire attached to frame. Frame shows wear consistent w/ normal handling, display, and storage, over the last
    100 or more years

I have 3 antique framed cross stitch samplers that have hung as a grouping on a wall in my home for many years. They came from an old west Texas farm house that had been in the the family for 5 generations.  We were
    acquainted
with this family due to our love of history and often would visit to listen to the stories from this elderly couple of growing up during the depression and the strength that came from God, Family and Friends were the cornerstone of this home.  When the elderly woman passed away, I was at the estate sale and was blessed to be able to get these special cross stitch samplers.  I do not know the history of who made them but they were prominently displayed in her home.  I am downsizing and unfortunately do not have the wall space to display these special samplers.  I am offering them each as a single purchase but please look at all three and if you are interested we can combine the shipping.
    Thank you for looking!
Packaged and shipped from Texas with care and blessings.
